Edmonton Chamber of Commerce: Made in Alberta Goes Digital

December 1st, 2025

EDMONTON, AB  Albertans can now explore locally made food and beverage products in an easier, more engaging way with the launch of the Made in Alberta app and refreshed website at www.madeinalberta.co. Ahead of the Holiday season, the Alberta Food Processors Association (AFPA), together with the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, is unveiling new digital tools that help people discover the products, makers, and stories behind Alberta’s thriving food and beverage sector.

Developed by AFPA, the app helps consumers find local products by simply snapping a photo. Whether it is a cup of coffee, a bottle of hot sauce, or a favourite snack, the app instantly identifies similar products made in the province. The updated website adds recipes, maker profiles, and personalized shopping lists that encourage Albertans to use local ingredients in their everyday cooking.

“We wanted to make discovering local products as easy as taking a picture,” said Bianca Parsons, Executive Director of AFPA. “The app gives people an instant connection to the makers in their own backyard. It sparks curiosity, supports local businesses, and makes it easier to bring more Alberta-made food and beverages into your home.”

Alberta’s food and beverage manufacturing sector contributes more than twenty-eight billion dollars to the provincial economy and supports over eighty-three thousand jobs. It is the second largest manufacturing sector in Alberta and a major driver of innovation, rural development, and local investment.

The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce has been a strong advocate for strengthening local supply chains and championing the businesses that power Alberta’s food ecosystem. Standing alongside AFPA at the launch, the Chamber reinforced the sector’s importance to the region’s competitiveness and long-term economic growth.

“Alberta’s food and beverage makers bring so much character and strength to our province. They create jobs, spark innovation, and give every neighbourhood a sense of pride,” said Laura Kinghorn, Vice President Community Relations and Partnerships at the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. “This app helps Albertans find those products more easily and choose local more often. When people reach for something made here at home, they support real businesses, real families, and the stores that keep our communities vibrant.”

Side Door was selected as the launch location to underscore the everyday role neighborhood stores play in showcasing local makers. The shop features dozens of Alberta-produced items and represents the kind of retail environment where the Made in Alberta app will thrive.

“People come to Side Door because they want to feel connected to their community. They want to support the local producers, artisans, and artists who bring so much creativity and flavour to this city. When someone picks up an Alberta made coffee, snack, or handcrafted good, they support a maker who lives and works right here. This app makes those choices even easier and helps more Albertans discover the incredible businesses and creators in their own backyard,” said Corinne Olson, Market Manager, Edmonton’s Old Strathcona Farmers Market.

The Made in Alberta app is available now through the App Store and Google Play. Albertans can visit www.madeinalberta.co to browse recipes, explore local producers, and build shopping lists featuring products made here at home.
